The Bears Will Not Gather

17 years ago our associate broker, Karen Haskell, suffered a knee injury after her Newfoundland puppy, Bella, crashed into her on the ice. During her recovery Karen would travel to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

After an appointment with her physical therapist, Karen was leaving the hospital when she walked by various reception areas- there was one that caught her attention. She noticed a little boy in his mother’s lap. He was recovering from an injury he had sustained, and found great comfort in hugging his teddy bear tightly. It was in that moment that Karen developed the idea for the Gathering of the Bears. Since then Karen has collected thousands and thousands of teddy bears to donate to the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) where they bring comfort and hope to their recipients.

Sadly, this year, due to the pandemic, Karen has decided not to gather the bears. We’re all heart broken that the bears will not dance through our offices this year. However, she and our friends at the hospital have found a way that we can all provide much needed items to the children at CHaD. So, how can you help? The team at the hospital has prepared two wish lists that will help provide items to bring laughter and comfort to the children and families in the hospital.

We hope that you will consider purchasing an item from the wishlist to help bring joy to the children and families you have to visit our stay in the hospital during the holiday season. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Karen Haskell at 603.568.0173.
